Two beautiful, floating, sultry tracks by a mystery person from Memphis, Tennessee who goes by the moniker, i was happy when i was a kid . It turns out that there are two N’s, two S’s and two E’s in Tennessee. I now know this as I spelled it wrong three times just then.
But anyway, back to this release…
Was I happy as a kid? I think so. I don’t have a lot of memories from back then and I think I was actually pretty serious. I remember laughing a lot and I have a lot of memories which I guess are pretty happy. But I don’t know if I was overall, a happy kid. It’s not something I think too much about any more as life just moves too fast to keep living in the past. But sometimes, in quiet moments, listening to quiet music like this it’s interesting to think about.
I did like The Goonies though, which is great because one of the best quotes from that movie is lifted directly for the closing seconds of ‘no one can save u’ here on this two track collection.
And… well, that’s about all I can tell you. It’s all very pleasant. One voice floating gently over a couple of echoing keyboard lines. It’s like being hugged by a warm marshmallow or the aural equivalent of when your mother stroked your hair when you were a baby. It’s also very, very sad, so please listen responsibly and don’t get too bummed out.
There’s a Facebook page here and you can find a very large collection of music on i was happy when i was a kid‘s Bandcamp page that stretches back to the halcyon days of 2016 if you’re interested in more of this touchingly sad music.
‘ice cream!’ is a Pay-What-You-Want release that came out on April Fool’s Day. You’d be a fool to miss it. Hah! Take a listen below.
